The main objective of this course is for students to achieve the basical knowledge needed to perform practical activities in micropaleontology. More specifically, among the several groups useful in applied micropaleontology, it was decided to treat mainly the foraminifera (benthonics and planktonics), because they are widely used both for biostratigraphy and palaeoecology, and find application in the oil industry. Another objective is to provide the students with direct experience of the practical techniques used for studying the microfossils.
